How to dress for a day or night in Xochimilco is a question many of us have asked ourselves at one time or another. Lots of people say you should dress one way or another, but the best thing you can do is look for something comfortable that flatters your figure and stays true to your style. Xochimilco is color, music, and joy, so let yourself enjoy a unique experience—Mexican style at its best—but with all the comfort it calls for. If this is your first time here, keep these tips in mind so you don’t end up packing your outfit, your trajinera look, at the last minute.
For Her
● Hair down: Straight, curly, or coily, or in long waves—wear it however you like! Just make sure to carry a hair tie so you can style it in different ways for your many photos.
● Makeup: Make yourself beautiful! Do your makeup however you like and wear that bold lipstick to stand out in photos and be the center of attention. Trust me, this is the perfect occasion!
● Clothes: Jeans or shorts will always be your best friends. Be sure to check the weather beforehand so you know whether it will be warm or cold on the day of your booking.
● Shoes: Trajineras were made for dancing and having fun. Flat shoes such as sneakers or ballet flats will be your best option.
● A playlist of the best Mexican songs: Last but not least, getting in the mood before your trip is key to being in “Xochimilco mode” and having the best energy on the day of your trajinera tour.
For Him
● Polo or dress shirt: Iron that favorite shirt and look sharp! Day or night, this piece will never let you down, and you’ll be the most dashing guy around.
● Casual pants: A pair of jeans will be your best friend for the party. Remember,
comfort should always come first!
● Well-polished shoes: Well-polished shoes are just as important as
an ironed shirt. Wear a pair of comfortable shoes that are easy to pair with any outfit. Remember that these are simply helpful tips for enjoying Xochimilco, but don’t lose the authenticity that makes you who you are. Let your intuition guide you!
