It depends a lot on where you are. The best option is always to take the Metro on the Blue Line, or Line 2. For example, if you are in Polanco, go to Normal station; if you are in Bellas Artes, go to Bellas Artes station; if you are on Reforma, you can go to Hidalgo or Revolución station; if you are at the Zócalo, go to Zócalo station. In every case, you will need to ride to the end of the line at Taxqueña station. At Taxqueña, the easiest thing is to go to the Taxqueña south bus terminal (Paradero Sur) and look for bus route 36, taking the bus that goes to Xochimilco Centro Galeana. The last stop will drop you off at the Nativitas docks, which are the main ones.

The Xochimilco borough’s General Directorate of Tourism has 1,103 trajineras and 11 docks on record: 8 docks in the tourist area and 3 in the ecological area.

There are 2 options you should consider before choosing which dock to visit.

There are 8 docks in the tourist area and 3 docks in the ecological area.

In the tourist area, you can explore the main canals and visit the handicrafts, clothing, and plant markets, the Voladores de Papantla, and the Xochimilco Cathedral, among many other places. The tourist canals have a lively atmosphere, live music, and many other activities to enjoy. The tourist docks have easy access to the ecological area.

In the ecological area, you can see Xochimilco’s most beautiful landscapes, since there are no houses and the chinampas are still full of crops. The area is very peaceful.

You don’t need to book the trajinera. However, it is highly recommended so you don’t fall into the hands of unauthorized guides who will charge you inflated prices, even per-person prices.
